Unfinished hardwood flooring is installed at your location and is sanded and finished onsite. This process usually takes several days. Since an unfinished floor is sanded at your location prior to applying the final finish coats, you will have a smooth floor and will not be able to feel the edges of the individual boards.
Prefinished hardwood flooring has the all of the finish coats applied during the manufacturing process. It is installed at your location and is ready to use usually the same day. When you feel the edges of the boards on a prefinished floor, you will be able to feel the edges or bevel in between each piece of flooring.
